Abby Byrne

exercise physiologist, clinical exercise & Pilates instructor

Growing up Abby loved sport, exercise and generally being active. Having always been very passionate about health, fitness, wellbeing and helping people, when she discovered Exercise Physiology (EP), it seemed the perfect fit.

Abby enjoys the diversity that comes with her role as an EP. On the same day, she can see a number of people across all different lifespans; from young teenagers through to our senior population. There is variety too in what conditions or reasons people are seeking treatment. These can range from musculoskeletal complaints to chronic health concerns and those who generally want to improve their strength or cardiovascular fitness.

The thing Abby finds most rewarding about her role is the ability to closely guide and help people reach their full potential and lead their strongest, healthiest and happiest life. The pure joy in people’s faces when they achieve something they’ve worked so hard towards is an incredible feeling and something that drives her each and every day.

Particular areas of interest to Abby include working with older populations, more specifically: fall prevention, osteoarthritis and bone health. A big part of her role is educating and empowering people with the knowledge of why it is important to remain active throughout their lifespan in order to stay strong, mobile and independent to experience a high quality of life.

Another area of interest is health coaching and behavioural change in both the prevention and management of chronic health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.  Abby is also Pilates trained and loves the benefits this style of exercise can bring to people of all ages both from a fitness and rehabilitative perspective.

Away from work, Abby loves keeping active including like from getting outdoors and hiking, hitting the gym, doing a Pilates class or simply grabbing a coffee and walking the lake. She is also a keen foodie, who loves trying new foods or going out for brunch.
